Vasant Panchami: Everything You Need to Know

People celebrate Basant Panchami or Vasant Panchami as the chilly winter days give warmer spring days. This event takes place in the Hindu month of Magh, which corresponds to the Gregorian months of January and February. It is also known as the spring celebration since it marks the start of the Vasant Ritual. Vasant associates with new beginnings and freshness in many aspects of life.

The Festival

Vasanti Panchami is popular as Vagishvari Jayanti Panchami since people believe it is Goddess Saraswati’s birthday. Others say that on this day, the goddess, together with Durga; descended to earth and drove away Mahishasura, the demon ruler. On this day, some people feed Brahmanas, while others perform Pitri-Tarpan (ancestor worship) and worship Kamdev, the god of love. Saraswati has four hands representing the ego, intellect, attentiveness, and mind. She has a lotus in one hand and scriptures in the other, and she plays the veena with the other two. She is seated atop a white swan. Her white gown is a representation of purity. Her swan represents the ability to distinguish between the good and the bad. Saraswati, who sits on a lotus, represents wisdom.

Date

Vasant Panchami is significant because Vasant means spring, and Panchami means “the fifth day.” The fifth day of spring is Vasant Panchami. On the fifth day of the glorious section of the Hindu lunar-sun powered calendar month of Magha, which usually falls in late January or February, folks celebrate Vasant Panchami. It is regarded as the start of spring, but it is mostly winter-like in northern India and spring-like in the central and western parts of the country. Hindus in India and Nepal celebrate in the north, central, and western parts of the country. Sikhs have also followed this tradition.

Dress Code

It depends on where you live in the country. But, for the most part, you must wear a yellow Saari, Kurti, Salwar, or shirt. According to Hindu mythology, the color is more important than the item of clothing; with yellow representing the brilliant bounty of Spring and Goddess Saraswati’s favorite color. Imagine ripe Sarson ke khet in full bloom, and you’ll have a good idea of what to wear. This is not a rhyming phrase.

Rituals To Follow

You can say “Om Aim Klim Sauh Shri Mahasaraswatyai Namah” or “Om Shri Saraswatyai Namah” to achieve writing grandeur in academics and overcome any setbacks or setbacks difficulties. Worship Ganeshji, the Vighnaharta God, as well; it will be quite beneficial. Locals who have trouble concentrating should chant “Om Hrim Aim Hrim Om Saraswatyai Namah” regularly. You can get knowledge by worshipping mother Saraswati and saying her mantra, “Om Aim Saraswatyai Namah,” 108 or 51 times every Thursday and Sunday. Mother Saraswati hails from the Sattva Guna and is particularly fond of white objects. Thus, white commodities especially milk, butter, white clothing, curd, sugar, dry fruits; and rice grains are donated or offered to obtain mother Saraswati’s blessings.
