Talking about cakes, some of us are real foodies, aren’t we? How about baking your own little cake and enjoying it with the family? Read on to find about 10 easy steps to make a delicious vanilla cake at home.

Starting off with the much-needed essentials to bake the classic vanilla cake:

1 ½ cups of fine granulated sugar

  • 3-4 cups of all-purpose flour

1 ½ to 2 sticks of unsalted butter

1 tablespoon baking powder

½ tablespoon of salt

4 large eggs

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

¾ cup of heavy cream milk mixed with around ¼ cup of drinking water

1 ½ cups of buttermilk at room temperature

Parchment paper

Baking pans

Let’s start off with our recipe:

First and foremost, preheat your oven to 350°F.

Simultaneously, grease the baking pan adequately with the unsalted butter and adjust the parchment paper perfectly to fit the baking pan. Butter the parchment paper as well and finish off the preparation by sprinkling some flour. The use of parchment paper ensures the free release of the cake from the baking pan.

Coming to the main step of the cake baking procedure, begin with whisking around 3-4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon salt, and baking powder in a bowl until uniform.

Now with the help of a hand or electric whisk, beat the remaining unsalted butter with the fine granulated sugar in a bowl until a smooth mixture is obtained.

After this, begin adding the eggs one at a time, whisking simultaneously. After the addition of the eggs add 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract to this mixture and keep beating the mixture for another 2-3 minutes to obtain a creamy mixture. The mixture after appropriate mixing would look a little curdy.

Follow with mixing the above-whisked froth with the initially mixed dry contents in a bowl. Ensure a smooth mix of all the ingredients. At this stage, the mix will become slightly thick.

While mixing both the dry and wet contents together, pour in the buttermilk and mix the contents at a slow speed. Make sure that no solid lumps remain at the bottom of the bowl.

Next up is pouring the prepared batter into the baking pans lined with parchment paper. You can pour the contents after weighing them if accuracy is desired.

Let the cake for about 25-30 minutes straight and turn off the oven once the top layer turns light brown in color.

Ensure that the cake is completely baked, by inserting a clean toothpick into the cake. If the toothpick comes out to clean without any debris, our cake is ready. Allow the cake to cool down completely at room temperature and preferably place it on a wire rack.

Frosting made easy:

In a bowl, mix the unsalted butter, confectioner’s sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy cream milk and mix slowly. After about 2 minutes, increase the speed of mixing and mix at high speed for about 2 minutes to end up with a smooth creamy texture. In case the mix becomes extremely thin, add more sugar, and mix again to obtain the desired consistency.

Assembling and decorating the mighty Vanilla:

Remove the cooled cake from the pan on a plate and chop off the uneven edges with the help of a serrated knife. Cover the entire cake with around 1 ½ cup of frosting and spread it evenly over the top and the sides with the help of a spatula (An icing spatula would be a great help). Top the frosting by dusting the sliced-off cake debris or fresh fruits or dusting icing sugar for giving it a professionally baked appearance. Make sure to refrigerate your cake at least 1-2 hours prior to slicing it for the loved ones!

Enjoy the home-cooked freshness with your loved ones and have a great time!
