If you are a 90’s kid, then you will agree with me that it was the best time. Not only me, but any millennial will tell you that ’90s was the best time to grow up in. I think we are the last generation to remember the world before technology hit us all. We actually played outside, and pubG can never overshadow the age-old hide and seek. But that doesn’t mean we are outdated because we still know how to use smartphones. That makes us super cool because we have enjoyed both phases of time.
With all the special things that happened only in the ’90s, one special thing was the way those kids got punished by their mothers. Yes, believe me, those punishments were harsh, and kids nowadays cannot even imagine that.
Sometimes you deserve it, sometimes it was just her mood swings, but punishment is a part of everyone’s childhood. Mommies always had an idea of what will punish their kids the most, and she made sure to make the best use of this knowledge. Out of all the punishments, there are some that were common in all houses and the ones that were so harsh that kids (who are now adults) can never forget. So, this mothers day, while you look for mother’s day gifts, let’s recall some punishments that brown mommies tried on their kids.
Being grounded to the room
Nowadays, being sent to the room is a blessing because kids have easy access to television, tablets, mobile phones and such punishments just act as a blessing to them. But back in the time, being grounded to the room was a real punishment. Bedrooms were meant just to sleep, and max you could do was stare at your favourite celebrity’s posters. Doing that for hours straight, turned into punishment real soon.
No food as punishment
You know, back then Zomato didn’t even existed in the thoughts, let alone the access to any of these food delivering apps. So, when your mom decided no food for you, that shit meant something serious. Sending kids to bed without dinner was a real thing. Okay, take a minute to sink that in. Though now that would be considered cruel, but our mom would also feed us in indirect ways, right?
No favourite show for the night
Yes, you guys are lucky to have Netflix and prime accounts, but before all this, we only had one chance to watch our favourite shows, and that was when they were aired live and facility to record either. Even television was a luxury and not every house had one.
Put a ban on internet plug
Like television, even the internet was a luxury and going online required a dial-up connection, and it was easily interrupted if someone used the telephone. So, the best way was to put a stay on the internet connection. But now, even moms cannot live without the internet.
No going out in the evening
After you have completed your homework, you were supposed to meet your friends on the ground. Time and place were pre-decided the previous day. So, not meeting them meant no contact with them till the next evening. Sounds like a real punishment, right? Unlike today, when moms actually force their kids to go out in fresh air.
